ABOUT THE NAPLEX EXAM

What is the NAPLEX?

The NAPLEX (North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination) measures a candidate’s knowledge of the practice of pharmacy. It is just one component of the licensure process and is used by the boards of pharmacy as part of their assessment of a candidate’s competence to practice as a pharmacist.

Education & Experience Requirements

Before applying for the NAPLEX Exam (or the MPJE Exam), candidates must have already sat and achieved the FPGEC certification.
When applying, your state’s board of pharmacy must give you authorization to test by determining whether you are then eligible for the NAPLEX Exam. The requirements for eligibility depend on where in the United States you are, and are determined based on your e-profile – so make sure it’s up to date before applying!
Once you’ve been approved, you’ll receive an email instructing you to purchase the exam for $475.

About the Exam

About the Exam

The NAPLEX is administered year-round on business days – so you can sit as soon as your Pearson Vue test center has availability. And in terms of how often you can sit for the exam, test takers are allowed a maximum of 5 attempts to pass the NAPLEX – but after each failed attempt, you must wait 45 days to next attempt the NAPLEX.

What Makes up the Exam?

The NAPLEX is made up of one linear form exam that consists of 250 multiple-choice test questions. Of these, 200 questions will be used to calculate your test score. The remaining 50 questions simply serve as experimental questions and do not affect your score.

How Difficult is it to Pass?

With the passing score at 75 out of 150, and a pass rate of about 81% in 2019, passing is within reach – if you study efficiently. That’s why we recommend to choose a review partner that allows you to focus on the areas you aren’t as competent in, while only lightly practicing the areas you’re excelling in.
